The Breakfast Song – No mo oatmeal

One of the most entertaining things about the US is local television. Believe it or not by Austin has around 5 local television stations[1] and they need to find some way of filling those 24 hours. Invariably the highlight of the day is the morning news/variety shows for pure low-cost entertainment.

The below viral video[2] is from a 2004 morning show and features Minister Cleo Clariet and his fiancĂ© Katherine Lane gospelizing breakfast in what has rightly become known as The Breakfast Song. I’ve not laughed as much since Jon Stewart did his ‘I’m going to miss you so much’ farewell to GW Bush.

What makes the song so amazing[3] is the fact that, by all accounts, Minister Clariet isn’t just freestylin’ on all the possible breakfast foods that God’s word might satisfy one of. Apparently these are actual verses that they’ve memorized and can therefore sing again and again. What a frickin’ crowd pleaser.

On a side note – we ran out of oatmeal this morning at home. Does this mean that God is calling me home? I hope not – I’ve got a date with Joe Bickett over at Good Day Austin.

not counting the public access channels that broadcast things like city council meetings
i.e. which you've probably already seen
in addition to the hilariously terrible backing vocals

The irony is that he died in December 2004. He really won’t need no breakfast cause he’s gone.
