Winter on South Congress

We’ve arrived in Austin and currently my state of mind isn’t capable of anything more than exhaustion. The change from Cape Town’s glorious summer to Austin’s (not severe) winter isn’t helping either. But since I’ve visited Austin several times before I do feel a sense of welcome underneath the cold and dark. We are currently living in a furnished apartment on South Congress with a great view of the skyline. SoCo (as South Congress is known) reminds me of Toronto’s Queen Street though I do think that Queen has SoCo beat for really great, independent shops. However, SoCo’s restaurants and bars can compete with anything on Q. We haven’t eaten there yet (only takeout coffee), but Jo’s looks absolutely killer.

My camera can never do justice to the skyline’s glow from my front door at 7am, but here it is anyway.

Right now all I want to do is to get through the worst of the logistics [1] and then I feel like I can start enjoying Austin in all its forms.

a car and a house in which to live - is that too much to ask?
